Replacing the Japanese Umbrella tree near the parking lot is our newest planting, a Yellowwood tree.  This rare North American species of tree is noted for its pale yellow flowers, but our species is even more unique.  

Discovered at a school for blind children in Boston, this tree, unlike the whitish flowers of the common variety, will sport beautiful pink blossoms.  The yellowwood tree derives its name from its brilliant yellow foliage in the fall and from the yellow dye that can be obtained from its heartwood.  

The Arboretum Board is looking to obtain another Japanese Umbrella to replace the one that did not thrive.
